Until we got there. He was HORRIBLE during the appointment. Like I wanted to tranquilize him. He has NEVER acted like this before. Thankfully, the doctor just laughed and said he was the second three year old she had that morning and the other went exactly the same way. Argh! I HATE THREE! Where did my sweet, compliant baby go? I'll tell you: far, far away!
Anyway, here are his stats as of 7/19/17:
Height: 39.25" which is 88% (34", 49% at 2 year)
Weight: 39.8 lbs which is 97% (33.2 lbs, 94% at 2 year)
BMI: 94%
(they no longer measure head circumference, but I'm sure it was still 99%)
So basically, he's huge, which we already knew. Again, she assured me that he remains on his curve and since his BMI has always been along that curve (and so have my other two kiddos, for the record, which she also reminded me!), she is NOT concerned about it. Argh!
She was shocked about his height and double checked it and still didn't believe it. He grew FIVE INCHES in one year! Holy moly. And his length is all body because he still fits in 3T for length (or at least I think so since he doesn't wear pants very often in the summer!).
She said that since his hernia hasn't gone away by now, it most likely won't on its own, which we already knew. But since it is a cosmetic procedure (but one he has to go under for), she strongly recommended waiting until we can piggy-back on something else (like if he needs tubes or something). But she also said that if he gets self-conscious about it or if there is any kind of "reason" we want to do it, that she would write a referral right away. On the other hand, recovery is easier when they are younger, so I don't want to wait TOO long. But for now, we have decided to wait. It shouldn't be an issue until he gets a little older. We'll see. Optimistically, I do feel like it has gotten a little smaller, but that could just be because he's gotten bigger.
I asked about Mac having allergies. I realized after last winter that Mac had a runny nose all the time but wasn't actually sick with a cold. Then I started thinking that maybe it was allergies. On top of that, he's always had sensitive, dry skin but for the last few months, he scratches it until it bleeds. On both accounts, she thought it could be allergies and recommended trying OTC Zertec the next time I see it happening. If that doesn't help, then she wanted to see him again. Hopefully this winter is different and it isn't a problem (one can hope, right?).
And that would have been it except when she was doing her exam...she found he had a double ear infection! Like, seriously?!?! I felt terrible because I had no idea, but what can you do. He is my enigma that only gets ear infections during the summer! So, antibiotics for now and hopefully it goes away and stays away. While it would be nice to have a reason to get his belly button fixed, I really don't want tubes!
And that was it. Other than feeling like I ran a marathon when we were done. Seriously, he was horrible, if you didn't get that from earlier. Overall, a healthy, rambunctious preschooler!
